Professor Imwinkelried Speaks at Scientific Evidence Seminar in Lausanne, Switzerland

Between September 6 and 9, Professor Edward Imwinkelried participated in a scientific evidence seminar in Lausanne, Switzerland. The seminar was co-sponsored by the University of Lausanne and China University of Political Science and Law, two institutions that have exchange agreements with King Hall.

At one plenary session, Professor Imwinkelried presented a paper on the growing controversy over the source code for automated forensic techniques, notably infrared breath testing devices and the new probabilistic genotyping programs used to analyze mixed DNA samples. The courts have divided over both the admissibility of the results of such techniques and the discoverability of the source code.

Later in the seminar Professor Imwinkelried chaired a panel devoted to the evolution of forensic science.
