Professor Imwinkelried Interviewed on Forensic Science by German Press Agency

On August 4, Professor Edward Imwinkelried was interviewed by Sophie Rohrmeier, a journalist with the German Press Agency.  She is conducting research to compare the handling of forensic science evidence by American and European courts.  

Although in the past many European courts routinely admitted expert testimony, increasingly they are scrutinizing the reliability of the proffered evidence. Today the European courts sometimes look to the United States Supreme Court's 1993 decision in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, Inc. 509 U.S. 579 (1993) as a model for evaluating the reliability of expert testimony.  During the interview, Professor Imwinkelried traced the evolution of the American standard for admitting expert testimony and discussed some of the most recent developments in the American law of expert testimony. 

Professor Imwinkelried is the coauthor of Scientific Evidence (5th ed. 2012) and the author of The Methods of Attacking Scientific Evidence (5th ed. 2014).
