Professor Imwinkelried delivers opening remarks for national conference

The Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE), headquartered at Iowa State University, regularly sponsors national conferences and seminars related to forensic science. 

On March 12, CSAFE hosted a conference on computerized forensic techniques, including the importance of the computer's source code in determining the reliability of the outcome of the analysis. 

Professor Emeritus Ed Imwinkelried delivered the opening remarks at the conference. In his remarks, he discussed the admissibility and discovery issues posed by the increasing popularity of computerized techniques.  At the outset of his remarks, Imwinkelried generally reviewed the relevant case law involving infrared breath-testing devices and probabilistic genotyping software programs that are used to evaluate complex DNA mixtures.  He then identified the specific admissibility and discovery issues that will shape the future of the law in this area.  After his opening remarks, Imwinkelried participated in a panel discussion of those issues.

Professor Imwinkelried is a world-renowned evidence expert who has published extensively in the field.
