Professor Ikemoto testifies at Capitol before Committee on Women's Reproductive Health

On March 11, professor Lisa Ikemoto presented testimony at the state Capitol before the California Select Committee on Women’s Reproductive Health. Her presentation focused on the ethical and clinical impact of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services on patient access and the standard of care, asserted that the directives perpetuate discrimination, and described how. She also discussed the issues in the context of affiliations between UC health centers and religious hospitals.

UC Davis Law alumna Maggy Krell ’03, chief legal counsel at Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, and UC Irvine Law Professor Michele Bratcher Goodwin also spoke at the hearing. Goodwin delivered the Barrett Lecture at UC Davis last November.

Lisa Ikemoto, Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law, has written extensively on genetic and reproductive technology, the regulation of fertility and pregnancy, and race and gender disparities in health care. Her current work examines emerging issues in regenerative medicine, including stem cell research, and the human tissues market.
