Professor Ikemoto Quoted in New York Times

Professor Lisa Ikemoto is quoted in a New York Times article on the international surrogacy industry and various regulations that govern it.  The agencies that act as go-betweens for prospective parents and fertility clinics in countries where surrogacy is allowed are often unregulated, Ikemoto said.

"The problem with those agencies - some of them of course are probably very good and careful - but anybody can do it," she said. "Basically what they do is they set up a website."

Lisa Ikemoto, Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of Law the UC Davis School of Law, has written extensively on genetic and reproductive technology, the regulation of fertility and pregnancy, and race and gender disparities in health care. Her current work examines emerging issues in regenerative medicine, including stem cell research, and the human tissues market.
