Professor Hillman Comments on Regulation of Free Markets
In a September 21, 2008, Los Angeles Times article, Professor Robert Hillman discussed the back and forth between under- and over-regulation of free markets in the United States, noting that the government must find a balance between the two that actually works. In the wake of recent and proposed government bailouts of large insurance, investment, and mortgage institutions, public regulation of the private sector has emerged as the most pressing issue in the nation today.
Hillman, professor of law and Fair Business Practices and Investor Advocacy Chair at UC Davis, is a scholar in the fields of international transactions, securities regulation, and corporate and partnership law.
