Professor Hillman Comments on Jobs' Health Disclosures for Bloomberg.com
Professor Robert Hillman commented on the controversy surrounding Apple Inc.'s disclosures regarding Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs' health problems for Bloomberg.com. U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigators are reviewing the disclosures to determine whether the company accurately portrayed Jobs' condition, which forced a five-and-one-half month medical leave.
"The issue here is: Did Apple or Jobs make misleading disclosures, tested by what they knew at the time?" Professor Hillman said. "A disclosure could be misleading if it's a partial truth."
Professor Hillman holds the Fair Business Practices and Investor Advocacy Chair at UC Davis School of Law and is a scholar in the fields of international transactions, securities regulation, and corporate and partnership law.
