Professor Hillman Comments on Howrey Exodus for American Lawyer

Professor Robert Hillman commented for American Lawyer on issues surrounding the exodus of partners from the struggling Howrey firm to Winston & Strawn.  Three-quarters of Howrey's remaining partners received offers from Winston & Strawn, prompting questions as to whether the ex-Howrey partners and their new firm should face liability issues.

"Winston's got some exposure here," said Professor Hillman.  Creditors have good grounds to claim that "when you take three-quarters of a firm's partners, you've just taken everything, including the liabilities."

Professor Hillman holds the Fair Business Practices and Investor Advocacy Chair at UC Davis School of Law and is a scholar in the fields of international transactions, securities regulation, and corporate and partnership law.
