Professor Hillman Comments on Dewey & LeBoeuf Bankruptcy for AmLaw Daily
Professor Robert Hillman commented for AmLaw Daily on the potential liability of former partners of Dewey & LeBoeuf for $45 million related to the lease of the bankrupt firm's Manhattan headquarters. The lease dates to 1989, when most major law firms were structured as general partnerships, and partners would have to agree to back the firm's debts. Though most firms, including Dewey, are now limited liability partnerships, Hillman said it is possible that the liability provisions of the original lease remain in effect.
Professor Hillman holds the Fair Business Practices and Investor Advocacy Chair at UC Davis School of Law and is a scholar in the fields of international transactions, securities regulation, and corporate and partnership law.
