Professor Hillman Comments for Bloomberg BNA on Bankruptcy Court Ruling

Professor Robert Hillman commented for Bloomberg BNA on the unsuccessful attempt by the defunct Howrey LLP law firm to overturn a bankruptcy court order to repay more than $30,000 in fees.

"I can't imagine why this firm would think it would get paid for work under the circumstances here," said Hillman. "Representing interests adverse to those of a former client, and disclosing information of a former client in the process, are serious ethical lapses." This was a "textbook case of how not to discharge professional responsibilities," he said.

Robert Hillman is a Professor of Law and holds the Fair Business Practices and Investor Advocacy Chair at UC Davis School of Law.  He is a scholar in the fields of international transactions, securities regulation, and corporate and partnership law.
