Professor Green Comments for Bee on Homeowner Suits
Professor Lawrence Green commented for an article in the Sacramento Bee on the increasing number of local homeowners suing their lenders for fraud. About 250 local individuals have filed suits against banks and mortgage companies in the past six months-about double the number for the same period two years ago-and many of them are homeowners struggling to retain ownership of their properties and frustrated by the treatment they've received from lending institutions. Many of these individuals are representing themselves in court, according to the Bee.
"It's a sad situation," said Professor Green. "People not represented by a lawyer face a much harder time prevailing."
Lawrence Green, a member of the King Hall Class of 1975, is a Legal Writing and Research professor at UC Davis School of Law. His professional experience includes more than 20 years service as Counsel to the California Land Title Association, and he has been retained as a consultant and expert by law firms handling banking, real property and insurance matters.
