Professor Frank Comments on Proposed Legislation for Inside Climate News
Professor of Environmental Practice Richard Frank commented for Inside Climate News on proposed legislation that would extend the statute of limitations under California's Unfair Competition Law from four to 30 years. If enacted, the measure would give state and local prosecutors greater latitude to pursue allegations that the fossil fuel industry actively deceived the public for decades about the connection between fossil fuels and climate change.
"If the statute of limitations is extended, that means a now powerful environmental prosecutorial tool will become even more powerful," said Frank. "It would open up a much wider window for companies to be held accountable for their conduct."
Frank, a 1974 graduate of King Hall, is a leader in the field of environmental law and the founding Director of the California Environmental Law and Policy Center at UC Davis School of Law.
