Professor Florey Authors Briefs in Supreme Court Tribal Law Cases

Professor Katherine Florey recently authored two briefs submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in cases regarding the legal rights of Indian tribes and their members.

Professor Florey co-authored a brief with the American Civil Liberties Union in support of the respondents in Dollar General v. Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, a case concerning the ability of tribes to regulate the activities on nonmembers on reservations.  She was also the primary author and lead amicus on a brief submitted in support of a petition for certiorari in Two Shields v. Wilkinson, a case concerning the application of a federal  procedural rule to a suit involving an allegedly fraudulent purchase of mineral rights on Native American land.  That brief was signed by nine law professors.

Katherine Florey is a Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law whose scholarship focuses on federal Indian law, choice of law, and civil procedure.
