Professor Elizabeth Joh Quoted in Tech.Mic Articles

Professor Elizabeth Joh is quoted in two recent articles in the online technology journal Tech.Mic concerning the use of new crime-fighting technologies by police.

One article, "The Constitution Can't Defend You From Predictive Policing - Here's Why," expresses concerns that current law may inadequately regulate predictive policing and quotes from Professor Joh's article "Privacy Protests: Surveillance Evasion and Fourth Amendment Suspicion," published in the Arizona Law Review.  The other, "If We Want to Throw Body Cameras on Every Police Officer, We're Going to Need Better Laws," raises questions about the adoption of police body cameras and quotes from an interview with Professor Joh.

"I don't see any barrier for putting in facial recognition or automatic license plate readers," said Joh. "They're meant to be a tool of surveillance against the police, but can very easily become a tool of surveillance against the public."

Professor Joh's scholarship focuses on criminal procedure and policing, with a special emphasis on DNA evidence, undercover policing, and new surveillance technologies.
