Professor Dodge Meets to Discuss Restatement of Foreign Relations Law

On September 16, Professor William S. Dodge discussed Preliminary Draft No. 4 of the Restatement (Fourth) of Foreign Relations Law with the Project's counselors, advisers, and the Members Consultative Group at a meeting in Philadelphia.

The draft covers the presumption against extraterritoriality and reasonableness in interpretation, jurisdiction to adjudicate in criminal cases, and jurisdiction to enforce, among other topics. Professor Dodge serves as a co-reporter for the project, along with Professor Paul Stephan of the University of Virginia School of Law and Professor Anthea Roberts of Australia National University. The American Law Institute initiated the project in 2012 and completion is expected in 2017.

In addition to his work for the ALI, Professor Dodge serves as a member of the State Department's Advisory Committee on International Law. He is a co-author of the casebook Transnational Business Problems and a co-editor of International Law in the U.S. Supreme Court: Continuity and Change, which won the American Society of International Law's 2012 certificate of merit. He has authored more than 50 other publications in books and law reviews.
