Professor DeSantis Publishes Article on Gizmodo Defamation Debate

Professor J. Angelo DeSantis has published "Did Gizmodo Defame the Apple Engineer Who Lost the Next Generation iPhone?" in the American Bar Association Media, Privacy, and Defamation Law Summer 2010 Newsletter. 

The article examines whether Gizmodo, a weblog devoted to consumer electronics, defamed an Apple engineer by strongly suggesting that he drunkenly left a new model iPhone on a barstool where it reportedly was found by another patron and leaked to Gizmodo before its official release.  Professor DeSantis asserts that the report could potentially be defamatory if it could be shown that the phone was stolen rather than lost, and thus more caution would be advisable in publishing damaging information about private individuals.

Professor DeSantis, a member of the UC Davis School of Law Class of 2008, joined the law faculty in Fall 2010 as a Legal Writing and Research Professor.  He returned to King Hall from the San Francisco office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, where he was a member of the firm's Litigation Practice.
