Professor Cuevas Discusses Race and Crime in California
The Aoki Center for Critical Race and Nation Studies continued its Interdisciplinary Speaker Series with Professor Ofelia Cuevas of the UC Davis Chicana/o Studies department. She teaches a class, Race, Mass Incarceration and Policing, and has led the Beyond the Barriers program for system-impacted students at UC Davis.
Author of a forthcoming book, Mortification of the Flesh: Racial Violence in a Time of Crisis, Professor Cuevas' talk was titled "Race, Mass Incarceration and Policing in California." She offered insights on the racial dynamics of policing and prisons in the Golden State. A good group of students joined me and Professor Raquel Aldana for the presentation. Professor Cuevas offered a thought-provoking analysis of race and crime in California.
