Professor Cooper Speaks on Padilla to Public Defenders

Professor Holly S. Cooper spoke on "Ensuring Immigration Competence After Padilla v. Kentucky" to members of the California Public Defenders Association in Berkeley on August 21.  Professor Cooper explained the Supreme Court decision in Padilla, which requires defense counsel to inform clients when a plea carries a risk of deportation, and the implications of specific California Penal Code provisions.

Holly Cooper is a professor of law and serves as staff attorney at the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic. Her areas of specialty include immigration law and detained immigrants' rights.
