Professor Cooper Speaks at Immigration Rally, Comments for KCRA
Professor Holly Cooper addressed the crowd at a rally protesting the Arizona anti-immigration law that drew thousands to the State Capitol on May 1, stressing the need for comprehensive immigration reform at the federal level.
Professor Cooper also spoke on the issue to media including the Sacramento Bee and KCRA-3. Commenting for KCRA, she said that although the Arizona law was likely to be overturned at some point, it could have serious consequences in the short term. "If the immigration courts deport someone, they're not going to be able to reopen their case once they've been deported from the United States," she said.
Holly Cooper is a professor of law and serves as staff attorney at the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic. Her areas of specialty include immigration law and detained immigrants' rights.
