Professor Cooper to Receive Partnership for Children Award

The Association for Child Psychoanalysis will honor Professor and Immigration Law Clinic Co-director Holly Cooper with its Partnership for Children Award.

The award will be presented at the ACP’s annual meeting in May in Minneapolis.

According to the ACP, the Partnership for Children Award was created to recognize individuals who are not clinicians from any other walk of life who have distinguished themselves through their attention to and work for the needs of children. These individiduals who “exemplify sensitivity, kindness, warmth, and competence in their efforts to address the needs, feelings and rights of children” can come from fields such as education, advocacy, law or administration.

Cooper has advocated for many years for the rights of children in immigration custody. In 2024, Cooper and the Immigration Law Clinic won a final declaratory judgment in a five-claim nationwide class action seeking to provide greater protections in immigration custody.

Professor Holly S. Cooper has extensive litigation experience defending the rights of immigrants and is a nationally recognized expert on immigration detention issues and on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.
