Professor Cooper Comments for Vice on Undocumented Immigrants Who are Actually Citizens
Professor Holly S. Cooper ’98, co-director of the UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic, commented for Vice on the significant number of U.S. residents who, due largely to the complexity of immigration law, spend their lives ignorant of the fact that they are actually citizens. Cooper said roughly 5 percent of the clients who approach her seeking immigration advice are already citizens.
“It’s very common actually,” said Cooper. “It’s a life-changer for so many of our clients who live their lives thinking they're undocumented and then we turn around and tell them, ‘You’re a citizen.’”
