Professor Chin Retained by Peter Liang Defense in NYPD Shooting Case
Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin has been retained by the legal team working on behalf of Peter Liang, a New York City police officer convicted of manslaughter after a bullet he fired ricocheted and killed a bystander. Paul Shechtman, a partner at Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, will lead the team representing Liang during sentencing and appeals. The hiring of Shechtman and his retention of Professor Chin drew coverage in the New York Journal, NBC News online, and in the China Daily.
Professor Chin was an attorney in the Criminal Appeals Bureau of the Legal Aid Society of New York before entering teaching, and currently directs the Aoki Federal Defender Program, which handles federal criminal appeals.
