Professor Chin Comments for Associated Press on Collateral Consequences of Criminal Convictions

Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin commented on the collateral consequences of criminal convictions for an Associated Press article that was published by numerous online and print media outlets.  Collateral consequences of felony convictions may include denial of government benefits, ineligibility for public housing, suspension of student loans, revocation or suspension of driver's licenses, and other measures that create barriers to the ex-convicts' efforts to reintegrate into society.

"It really is a public safety question because there are large numbers of people who can't be employed in the economy," Chin said, referencing employers who often ask if an applicant has any felony convictions. "The real solution has to come at the legislative level."
