Professor Chander Comments on Consumer Data Security for KCRA
Professor Anupam Chander commented for a news report on Sacramento television station KCRA regarding a potential data breach at a local retailer. Professor Chander said that such businesses face attacks from hackers seeking consumer information "all the time," yet the United States has been slow to adopt safeguards such as microchip technology that could make credit cards more secure.
The microchip technology scrambles the information that is passed between the card and the cash register, Chander observed. "There just hasn't been a push from the American public, from banks, or from retailers" to adopt such technologies, he noted.
Professor Anupam Chander is a leading scholar in the law of globalization and digitization, and has written widely on international law and cyber law. He is also Director of the California International Law Center at King Hall.
