Professor Chander attends ALI ceremony honoring Justice Ginsburg

Professor Anupam Chander attended the May 21 ceremony in Washington, D.C., at which Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg received the American Law Institute’s Henry J. Friendly Medal.

Chief Justice John Roberts presented the award  - named after the famed Second Circuit judge - to Ginsburg, and the pair riffed on Ginsburg’s nickname, “The Notorious RBG” (shortened to “RBG” for the new Ginsburg documentary).

As Chander reports in his post about the event on King Hall’s faculty blog, many in the room had connections to Friendly, who, as Justice Roberts observed during the ceremony, often is regarded as the most important United States jurist never to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. Roberts, for example, once clerked for Friendly.

The medal recognizes contributions to the law in the tradition of Judge Friendly.
