Professor Bjorklund Comments on WikiLeaks for Capital Public Radio
Professor Andrea Bjorklund commented on the legal implications of the public release of classified U.S. government documents on the WikiLeaks website for Insight, a news talk program of Capital Public Radio (KXJZ).
Professor Bjorklund said that it would be difficult to prosecute WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for espionage, but that Assange could face conspiracy charges for being part of a group of people who cooperated to reveal the identity of clandestine government operatives, and that the government is likely to pursue some legal recourse in order to deter future leaks. The most unfortunate result of the leak could be that the U.S. State Department will be less willing to share documents with other agencies, which could hinder anti-terrorism efforts, said Bjorklund.
