Professor Biagioli Comments on Authorship Disputes for Nature

Professor Mario Biagioli commented for Nature on the authorship disputes that sometimes result when scientists collaborate on research. Confusion over authorship is a fairly recent phenomenon, he said. Where scientific papers once had one or two authors, they now may have hundreds or even thousands, and the meaning of authorship may vary by discipline, Biagioli said.

Professor Biagioli, an internationally renowned expert in the fields of Intellectual Property and the History of Copyright, is the founding Director of the Center for Innovation Studies at UC Davis.
