Professor Bennoune Releases Second TED Talk
A new TED Talk by Professor Karima Bennoune has been posted to TED.com. It updates the TED talk she gave last year entitled, "When People of Muslim Heritage Challenge Fundamentalism," which has so far garnered nearly 1.3 million views. In the new speech, which was filmed at UC Davis School of Law, Bennoune shares the stories of people fighting Muslim fundamentalism in their own communities, from Algeria to the Somali-American diaspora. She concludes with a poem addressing recent attacks by ISIS, called "Why I Hate ‘Islamic State.'"
Karima Bennoune is an author, lecturer, teacher, and international law scholar as well as the first Arab-American to be honored with the Derrick A. She recently was awarded the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for her book Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here: Untold Stories from the Fight against Muslim Fundamentalism, now available in paperback from W.W. Norton & Company.
