Professor Bennoune Keynotes International Conference on Arab Spring
Professor Karima Bennoune was a keynote speaker at "The Unfinished Project of the Arab Spring" conference held at the University of Alberta on September 25-27. Professor Bennoune's talk, delivered on the 26th, was titled "The Struggle against Fundamentalism after the Revolutions of 2011: Your Fatwa Still Does Not Apply Here." Professor Bennoune also spoke in Edmonton, Alberta on September 24 as part of the 2015 Interfaith Service presented by the St. Thomas More Lawyers' Guild of Northern Alberta at Edmonton City Hall.
Karima Bennoune is an author, lecturer, teacher, and international law scholar as well as the first Arab-American to be honored with the Derrick A. Bell Award from the Section on Minority Groups of the Association of American Law Schools. She recently was awarded the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for her book Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here: Untold Stories from the Fight against Muslim Fundamentalism, now available in paperback from W.W. Norton & Company.
