Professor Bala Wins Award for Best Paper at Privacy Law Scholars Conference
Professor Nila Bala was awarded the 2025 Ian Kerr Best Paper Award at the Privacy Law Scholars Conference, held May 29-30 at UCLA School of Law.
Bala’s paper, “Policing Children’s Data,” was chosen as the best among approximately 80 conference papers, in turn selected from 250+ submissions. Forthcoming in the Washington University Law Review, the article explores how law enforcement obtains children’s data, and how parents are complicit in the process.
Nila Bala joined the faculty at UC Davis School of Law in 2023. Her research focuses on children’s rights and the criminal justice system, as well as emerging technologies. Her scholarship has appeared or is forthcoming in the Michigan Law Review, Washington University Law Review and Boston College Law Review, among other journals. Her essays have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and elsewhere.
