Professor Amann Comments on Sotomayor for Congressional Quarterly
Professor Diane Marie Amann commented for a recent article in Congressional Quarterly on foreign policy issues that could come before Supreme Court Justice nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Professor Amann stated that decisions President Obama has made seeking changes to military commissions that try detainees and invoking the state secrets privilege may prompt new suits, and that the most prominent national security-related case in which Sotomayor has had a role, Arar v Ashcroft, might be decided before Sotomayor is confirmed in order to prevent it from being re-litigated.
Diane Marie Amann is a Professor at the UC Davis School of Law and Director of the California International Law Center at King Hall. Issues related to post-9/11 detention, interrogation, and prosecution are a focus of her scholarship, with articles published in Transnational Law and Contemporary Problems, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and Columbia Journal of Transnational Law.
