Professor Amann Comments in Sacramento Bee on Prop. 4

Professor Diane Marie Amann commented in a recent Sacramento Bee article on Proposition 4, an initiative on the November 4 California ballot that would require doctors to notify a parent or guardian before performing an abortion on an unemancipated minor.  In the October 13 article, Amann, a professor at the UC Davis School of Law, analyzed the proponent's ballot statement, which asserts that the notification requirement would help authorities identify sexual predators.

"On its face, it appears to be simply window dressing to claim there is a linkage between this proposition and prevention of sexual predation," said Professor Amann.  "There is virtually nothing in the text that aims at that goal."

Diane Marie Amann is a professor at the UC Davis School of Law.  Among her areas of expertise are criminal law and constitutional law.
