Professor Amann Comments on Guantánamo Policies for Le Monde
Professor Diane Marie Amann commented on Obama administration policies regarding the detention of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay for the French newspaper Le Monde. Professor Amann noted the political difficulties President Obama will face if he decides to prolong the use of military tribunals at Guantánamo, a process he has opposed. She also criticized the possible authorization of preventive detention for terrorism suspects.
"To authorize preventive detention would be a catastrophic error," Professor Amann said. "The country has survived 200 years without it."
