Professor Amann Comments for Delaware News-Journal on Justice Stevens
Professor Diane Marie Amann commented on the career of U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens in a Delaware News-Journal story reporting that Stevens will administer the oath of office for Vice President-elect Joe Biden in January.
Professor Amann, who clerked for Stevens during 1988-89, noted that Stevens has been a leader on issues arising from the detention of terrorism suspects at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, authoring decisions that established the suspects' rights to challenge their detention in U.S. courts and invalidated Bush administration plans for military commission trials. "Throughout his career, Stevens has been a leader in ensuring that every person, even the least advantaged or least favored, benefits from the liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution," said Amann.
