Placido Domingo, Europa Nostra Endorse Professor Bennoune’s UN Report

Placido Domingo, President of Europa Nostra and internationally renowned opera singer, issued a video praising Professor Karima Bennoune and her report on the intentional destruction of cultural heritage. Acting in her capacity as United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, Professor Bennoune released the report through the UN in October.

The Europa Nostra video strongly endorses the report’s conclusions. “I applaud the recent special report prepared by the United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights Karima Bennoune,” Domingo states. “This report constitutes a vigorous human rights call to action to end intentional destruction of cultural heritage, which Europa Nostra wishes to endorse.”

Karima Bennoune is an author, lecturer, teacher, and international law scholar. In October 2015, she was appointed UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights.  She was recently presented with the 2016 Rights and Leadership Award by IANGEL, the International Action Network for Gender Equity & Law.
