Open House for Prospective Law School Applicants Draws Outstanding Turnout
UC Davis School of Law hosted an Open House for Prospective Law School Applicants on November 12, bringing around 100 potential students to King Hall for an informative program detailing important aspects of the admission process, financial aid, career services, the curriculum, and student life.
The program opened with a welcome message from Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Law Vikram Amar, who also spoke on the advantages of a UC Davis School of Law education. Informational sessions on the admissions process and financial aid followed, setting the stage for a series of panel discussions.
The first panel, moderated by Assistant Dean for Career Services Craig Compton, provided information on programs and services offered by the UC Davis School of Law Office of Career Services and featured students Ian Hlatky '13, Denise Mendez '12, and Nima Rahimi '13. Also on the morning schedule was a panel discussion of the benefits of working in one of King Hall's legal clinics or externships featuring students Anna Bokides '12, Toren Lewis '12, Liam McKenna '12, and Jessica Satre '12, and moderated by Rena Contreras, clinical administrator with the Clinical, Externship & Trial Practice Programs.
The afternoon session included a faculty panel with Professors Miguel Méndez, Andrea Bjorklund, and Lisa Ikemoto discussing the King Hall curriculum, areas of special interest, and growing trends in law. The final panel featured students Fitz King '13, Denise Mendez '12, and Ananth Srinivasan '14 discussing why they chose to pursue a legal education and their experiences at King Hall. In addition to the panel discussions, attendees also enjoyed tours of King Hall, guided by UC Davis law students.
Of the prospective applicants who attended, 15 percent are currently attending or have graduated from non-California schools including Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, NYU, University of Chicago, and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Prospective applicants unable to attend the November 12 Open House are invited to attend Information Sessions scheduled for December 10 and January 7 at King Hall.
