Dean Johnson Re-elected as President of Legal Services of Northern California

Dean Kevin R. Johnson has been re-elected by the Board of Directors of Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) to serve as the public service law organization's President, a position he has held since 2003. Dean Johnson has been a member of the LSNC board since 1996, and part of the organization's Executive Committee since 1998.

Founded in 1956, Legal Services of Northern California operates in 23 Northern California counties, offering free legal services to low-income clients.  The organization's close relationship with UC Davis School of Law goes back to the involvement of former Dean Rex Perschbacher, who was on the LSNC Board of Directors from 1990-1996. Gary Smith, LSNC executive director, and Julie Rogado, deputy director, regularly teach public interest law classes at King Hall.

Numerous King Hall alumni work or have worked for LSNC, including  Theo Cuison '11, Oliver Ehlinger '11, Margaret Engelhardt '03, Valerie Feldman '00, Emily Fisher '04, Deborah Gettleman '09, John Gianola '90, Jennifer Haffner '04, Parisa Ijadi-Maghsoodi '10, Arthur Lipscomb '02, David Lipschutz '99, Lynn Martinez '92, Rebecca Rabovsky '10, Gary Rhoades '93, Sarah Ropelato '07, Maryam Sayyed '10, Steliana Schmidel '08, Jennifer Smith '07, John Tan '10, Liza Thantranon '10, Wankanok Usaha '97, Rogelio Villagrana '02, Amy Williams '05, Kyanna Williams '06, Stacey Wittorf '05, and Tammi Wong '03. Gary Smith, LSNC executive director, and Julie Rogado, deputy director, regularly teach public interest classes at King Hall. Three members of the Class of 2014 have recently been hired by LSNC: Laurance Lee, Karen Kontz, Bradley Showman, and Patrick Ting.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
