New Season of "Survivor" - Innovative or Irresponsible?
Kevin Johnson, a professor of law and specialist in civil rights law, commented on the new fall season of the TV reality show, "Survivor," which will divide participants into four tribes according to race. Many people have expressed concern over the format, including Johnson, who said one of the problems with American popular culture is that it under-represents Blacks, Latinos and Asians, except in negative ways. He said he found it ironic and troubling that it takes this kind of spectacle for minorities to get equal play. "It's just going to reinforce what stereotypes there are out there," Johnson said.
