Korean Judicial Scholars
Judge Kim is interested in bankruptcy law, corporate law, and international trade law. While at Davis, he will study U.S. bankruptcy laws, including Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings and Chapter 13 consumer debt adjustment proceedings. He also plans to study corporate law, especially mergers and acquisitions and international trade law.
Judge Kim received a bachelor of business administration from Seoul National University. He completed a two-year program with the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea. He has worked with Samsung Corporation and Korean Air. Since 2004, he has been a judge with the Bankruptcy Court in the Daejeon District Court of Korea.
Judge Jung is interested in family and child law. She says that traditionally, there has been a low divorce rate in Korean society and families maintained close ties, but recently the divorce rate has increased and guardianship of children has become a public concern. While at Davis, she will research and observe guardianship issues, including provisions of guardianship and institution devices. She will also observe actual courtroom cases. The data she collects will be used for an ongoing judicial reformation project in family law conducted by the Supreme Court of Korea.
Judge Jung received a bachelor of law degree from Seoul National University. She completed a two-year program at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea.
Jung and Kim are married. While living in Davis with their two daughters, they plan to enjoy the many social and extracurricular activities in the community with fellow international students.
