King Hall Shines in AALS Meeting

UC Davis School of Law was a prominent presence at the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 6-10, with King Hall faculty presenting papers, leading and participating in panel discussions, and assuming positions of leadership within the AALS Sections.  In addition, the Law School sponsored a special screening of Sowing the Seeds of Justice, a film on the life of Professor Cruz Reynoso.

AALS is a non-profit educational association representing more than 10,000 law faculty in the U.S.  Its annual meeting constitutes the largest gathering of law faculty in the world.  Faculty from King Hall acted as speakers and moderators for several panel discussions, including:

In addition, Professor Pruitt presented her paper, "Migration, Development, and the Promise of CEDAW for Rural Women," at the Annual Meeting, assumed the role of the Chair of the AALS Section on Women in Legal Education, the AALS's largest section with more than 1,700 members.  Dean Johnson was re-elected to the AALS Executive Committee of the Minority Groups Section and was was named by the AALS President as the Chair-Elect of the Committee on the Retention and Recruitment of Minority Law Teachers and Students.  Associate Dean Vikram Amar was appointed as Chair of the Civil Procedure Section.   Professor Joo was elected to serve on the AALS Executive Committee of the Section on Contracts, where he also served during 1999-2000.  Professor Aoki was appointed to the AALS Membership Review Committee, and also serves on the Law School Site Visit Committee that is jointly sponsored by AALS and the American Bar Association.  Randon was elected to the Executive Board of the Section on Academic Support, and also to be the Program Chair for the 2011 AALS Conference in San Francisco. Professor Amann continues to serve as Chair of the Section on International Law and as a member of the Executive Committees for the Section on National Security Law and the Section on International Law. 

In New Orleans, UC Davis School of Law and the Society of American Law Teachers (SALT) co-presented a sneak preview of Sowing the Seeds of Justice, a new documentary about professor emeritus and civil rights icon Cruz Reynoso.   Dean Johnson acted as host for the preview and reception, which featured a panel discussion with filmmaker Abby Ginzberg ("Soul of Justice: Thelton Henderson's American Journey") and Professor Reynoso.
