King Hall scholars out in force at Law and Society gathering in Toronto

King Hall Professors Irene Joe, Thomas Joo and Brian Soucek presented at the 2018 Law and Society Annual Meeting held June 7-10 in Toronto.

Joe presented the paper “Too Many Masters: The Institutional Defender and Balancing the Funding Search With Client Rights,” and took part in the round-table discussion “Reflections from Former Public Defenders: Merging Practice and Theory in Legal Scholarship.”

Joo presented “What is Fraud …and Why? Comparing Rule 10b-5 and Mail Fraud,” and moderated a panel on Critical Race Theory and Property for the Socio-Legal Approaches to Property (SLAP) Collaborative Research Network.

Soucek presented “Heightened Pleading Standards for Defendants: A Case Study of Court-Counting Precedent,” a forthcoming article he wrote with Remington Lamons ’18.

Professor Gabriel “Jack” Chin and Professor Emerita Angela P. Harris also participated in the conference.
