King Hall to Play Prominent Role in AALS Annual Meeting
UC Davis School of Law will play a prominent role in the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) 2011 Annual Meeting in San Francisco on January 5-8, with numerous faculty attending, speaking, and participating in meetings and discussions. The Law School will also be hosting an Alumni and Friends reception on January 5 in conjunction with the conference.
Faculty participating in panel discussions include:
- Afra Afsharipour, who will be part of a panel discussing "Lawyers as Social Change Agents in South Asia" on January 5;
- Associate Dean Vikram Amar, who will serve as Chair for the Section on Civil Procedure and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Legal Education;
- Richard Frank, who will be leading a January 6 tour of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta for environmental law professors from around the country, stopping at a number of key Delta sites, where the group will be briefed by expert Delta scientists, engineers and policymakers;
- Lisa Ikemoto, who will be part of a panel discussion of "Women's Choices, Women's Voices: Legal Regimes and Women's Health" on January 7;
- Dean Kevin R. Johnson, who will participate in a panel discussion on "Diversity in Faculty Hiring and Recruitment: A Candid Discussion from the Front Lines" and also serve as a member of the Committee on Recruitment and Retention of Minority Law Teachers and Students;
- Thomas Joo, who will moderate a panel for the Section on Contracts meeting on January 6;
- Raha Jorjani, who will participate in a panel discussion of "Due Process in the Era of Mass Immigration Detention" on January 8;
- Courtney G. Joslin, who will moderate a panel entitled "Who Are We? Questioning Assumptions and Priorities," a plenary session during the all-day Workshop on Changing Society, Changing Law: Conflicts Over Sexuality and the Evolving American Family, on January 6;
- Lisa R. Pruitt, who will speak on the Section on Socio-Economics panel on "Class, Socio-Economics, and Critical Analysis" on January 6, serve as Chair for the Section on Women in Legal Education, and participate in the 2011 Workshop on Women Rethinking Equality;
- Leticia Saucedo, who will be moderating a discussion on civil Gideon for the SALT annual Robert Cover Workshop on January 5 and will serve on the Committee on Clinical Legal Education;
- Madhavi Sunder, who will be part of a panel discussing "Creativity and Creation in Intellectual Property" on January 8.
Several additional faculty members, including Diane Marie Amann, Andrea Bjorklund, Alan Brownstein, Christopher Elmendorf, Carlton Larson, Peter Lee, Albert Lin, and Shannon Weeks McCormack plan to attend the Annual Meeting and/or the UC Davis School of Law Alumni and Friends reception, which will take place from 5:30-7:30 pm on January 5 at the Hotel Monaco at 500 Geary Street in San Francisco.
