King Hall Outreach Program Completes Winter Session

The 2023 King Hall Outreach Program Winter Session included 29 exceptional students and began on Saturday, Jan. 21. These students will receive, or have already received, undergraduate degrees from: California State University, Northridge; California State University, Los Angeles; California State University, Fresno; California State University, Sacramento; San Francisco State University; Santa Clara University; UC Berkeley; UC Davis; UC Merced; and UC Santa Cruz.
To participate in the program, KHOP students need to either be first-generation students or economically disadvantaged. In this group, 93% are first-generation students, 72% are economically disadvantaged, and two-thirds are both.
Over the course of four Saturdays, students learned about the law school and the legal profession from members of the admissions and financial aid team at King Hall, including Assistant Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Kristen Mercado, Associate Director of Admissions Lindsay Chuang, Director of Financial Aid Montré Everett, and Director of Admission and Outreach Joe Schneider, who runs KHOP. They also got to meet and learn from Dean Kevin R. Johnson, who joined them for lunch, and from King Hall alumnus, KHOP alum and current associate at DLA Piper Aaron Bonner '19. Professor Karrigan Börk taught the mock law school class. Current King Hall students and KHOP alumni Jailene Gutierrez '23, Geovanna Medel '24, Julissa De Haro '25 and Alan Gonzalez '25 talked with the students. And, the Executive Director of the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center, Aidín Castillo '11, provided advice.
