King Hall Makes Its Presence Known at National Law Profs Conference

A large number of UC Davis School of Law faculty attended the annual meeting of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) in San Diego January 6-10.  The conference featured UC Davis faculty as panelists in several discussions, as well as the election of Dean Kevin R. Johnson and Professor Diane Amann to AALS executive committees. 

Among those King Hall professors participating in panel discussions were:

  • Professor Jennifer Chacón, who was part of a session entitled "Crimmigration: At the Intersection of Criminal and Immigration Law;"
  • Professor Edward Imwinkelried, who was on the panel for "Evidentiary Foul Play: Deception, Destruction, and Just Desserts;"
  • Dean Johnson, who was part of both "The Emerging Nexus Between Sports and Immigration Law" and "Out with the Old, in with the New, or Same Old Same Old?: Exploring What Lessons, if any, the 2008 Elections Taught Us About Race, Gender, Class, and Citizenship;"
  • Professor Dennis Ventry, who was part of "The Family and Taxation;"
  • Professor Thomas Joo, who was on the panel for "Immutable Rules and Contract Law;" and whose paper "The Immutable Role of the Court in Contract Law" was selected for presentation at the conference;
  • Professor Emily Randon, who was on the panel for "Teaching to the Entire Class: Innovative and Effective Instruction to Engage Every Student."

Dean Johnson was elected to the AALS Executive Committee of the Minority Groups Section.  He has previously served as a member and chair of the committee, as well as a member and chair of the Immigration Law Section.  Professor Diane Marie Amann was elected to the Executive Committee of the International Law Section, and re-elected to the Executive Committee of the National Security Law Section.   Professor Lisa Pruitt was re-elected to the Executive Committee for the Section on Women in Legal Education.

Other King Hall faculty attending the conference were, among others, included Professors Katherine Florey, Dylan Malagrino, Afra Afsharipour, Anthony Chavez, Albert Lin, Holly Doremus, Courtney Joslin, Evelyn Lewis, Carlton Larson, Alan Brownstein, Vikram Amar, Shannon McCormack, Peter Lee, Margaret Johns, Hollis Kulwin, and John Hunt.

The UC Davis School of Law Alumni Association hosted a King Hall Alumni Reception on January 7 in conjunction with the conference.  Featuring a presentation by Dean Johnson, the event was attended by several faculty and alumni including Alumni Board Member Michael Van Horne '75, Francine Lipman '93, Mike Wexler ‘ 73, Don Del Rio '83, Gordon Huckins '84, Kristine Knaplund '77, Sandra Chong '99, Monique Ho '99, Marissa Dragoo '06, Maureen Enmark '86, Stephanie Tyson '06, Janet Mueller '92, Robert Rodriguez '02, Stefan Spich '06, Lena Sims '00, Adam Rosenthal '05, and Leo Sullivan '74.
