King Hall Faculty Speak in UC Davis Campus Book Project Events

King Hall faculty are playing a prominent role in the 2016 UC Davis Campus Community Book Project, which focuses on Matt Taibbi's The Divide: American Injustice in the Age of the Wealth Gap. Featured speakers for Book Project events include Professors Elizabeth Joh, Thomas Joo, and Lisa Pruitt, along with Supervising Attorney for the Prison Law Clinic Millard Murphy, Supervising Attorney for the Civil Rights Clinic Carter "Cappy" White, Associate Director of the Immigration Law Clinic Holly Cooper, and Clinical Staff Attorney Rachel Ray '11.

The Campus Community Book Project is an annual series of events at UC Davis sponsored by the Office of Campus Community Relations to promote dialogue and build community by encouraging diverse members of the campus and surrounding communities to read the same book and attend related events.

In an October 21 event, Professor Pruitt spoke on "Access to Legal Counsel in the Age of Inequality."  Speaking with her was Gary Smith, Executive Director of Legal Services of Northern California, and Yolo County Deputy Public Defender Ronald Johnson '04.  A video of that event can be viewed by following the link below.

Murphy, White, Cooper, and Ray spoke as part of a November 2 event titled "The Divide: The Human Impact of Criminal and Immigration Detention." Video of that event is available via the link below.

Professors Joh and Joo spoke on "Addressing the Divide: Structural Inequality in American Policing and Prosecution" on February 1 at King Hall. Professor Joh will also speak with Matt Taibbi on February 3 at a Forum@MC event at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
