King Hall Faculty Play Prominent Role at AALS Annual Meeting
UC Davis School of Law faculty played prominent roles in the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C. on January 2-5, presenting papers, leading and participating in panel discussions, and assuming leadership roles in various AALS sections. The School of Law also hosted a UC Davis School of Law Alumni and Friends Reception on January 2.
AALS is a non-profit educational association representing more than 10,000 law faculty in the U.S. Its annual meeting constitutes the largest gathering of law faculty in the world.
At the annual meeting, Professor David Horton presented his paper, "In Partial Defense of Probate: Evidence from Alameda County, California," winner of the annual Scholarly Papers Competition.
In addition, King Hall faculty participated in the following discussions:
- Professor Cruz Reynoso spoke as part of a panel titled, "Beyond Michael Brown and Ferguson: Effective Responses to Police Force."
- Dean Kevin R. Johnson spoke as part of a panel organized by Professor Rose Cuison Villazor on "The 1965 Immigration Act: Fifty Years of Race-Neutral (?) Immigration" and as part of a panel on "The Fifty Years' War: Can Legislation Ameliorate Poverty."
- Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin spoke as part of panels on "The 1965 Immigration Act: Fifty Years of Race-Neutral (?) Immigration" and "Emerging Issues in Plea Bargaining."
- Professor Christopher Elmendorf as a panelist for a discussion of "The Voting Rights Act at 50."
- Professor Angela Harris was a panelist in a discussion of "The More Things Change . . .: Exploring Solutions to Persisting Discrimination in Legal Academia."
- Senior Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Hollis L. Kulwin was moderator and speaker for a panel on "The Non-Traditional Student: Student Services' Role in Providing Acclimation and Support."
