Judge Shama Mesiwala '98 to Receive Frances Newell Carr Award
The Women Lawyers of Sacramento have chosen Sacramento Superior Court Judge and King Hall adjunct professor Shama Mesiwala ’98 as the 2021 recipient of the Frances Newell Carr Achievement Award for Professional Excellence.
Frances Newell Carr, the daughter of migrant farm workers, became the first woman appointed to the Sacramento Superior Court, in 1975. Five years later, she was appointed to the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, where she served until her death in 1991. She was a founder of the WLS and its first president, in 1962.
The award will be presented in December.
