Johnson Quoted in Lawyers USA on Local Immigration Ordinance
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Kevin Johnson was quoted in a Lawyers USA (Nov. 5) article on a controversial immigration ordinance enacted in Prince William County, Virginia. Despite many court decisions holding that immigration regulation is a power of the federal government, some local governments continue to pass ordinances regulating immigration. The latest measure passed by Prince William County bars undocumented immigrants from obtaining certain public services or obtaining business licenses, and sets up training for local police to question people about their immigration status. Johnson questioned the constitutionality of the local efforts to regulate immigration, which constitutes an infringement on a federal power.
