International Association of Law Schools
The UC Davis School of Law is a founding member of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS), which was founded in 2005 with a membership of educational institutions, associations, and legal educators from throughout the world. The idea for an international association of law schools emerged from several meetings of legal educators from around the world who recognized the growing inter-relationship of norms from transnational legal systems.
The Davis School of Law and other IALS members are committed to the proposition that the quality of legal education in any society is improved when students learn about other cultures and legal systems and the diverse approaches to solving legal problems employed in those legal systems.
Davis Law School is a leader in international legal education. Over the past 17 years, hundreds of students and legal professionals have attended the School's international programs. Graduate programs include the one-year LL.M. Program, which integrates American and foreign law students at all levels of study and provides LL.M. candidates with a broad curriculum of many different courses. The Masters Degree in International Commercial Law (M.I.C.L.) program is designed to provide specialized knowledge in international business and trade with an emphasis on the U.S. legal system in a comparative context. In addition, summer programs offer attorneys, judges, pre-LL.M. students, and legal professionals from around the world the opportunity to study at the School of Law.
