Guardian Quotes Professor Pruitt on Effects of Federal Cuts in Trump-Leaning Counties

Professor Lisa Pruitt spoke to The Guardian for a May 16 story about how recent federal cuts by President Donald Trump’s administration are causing concern even in Trump strongholds like Shasta County.

Such unease highlights the potential effects the cuts pose to far northern California, where rural communities with smaller tax bases are more reliant on federal support.

“These cuts may, in fact, hurt rural communities harder,” Pruitt told The Guardian.  “Their bandwidth for providing all sorts of services is just much weaker to begin with, and that makes them more reliant on federal monies.”

Distinguished Professor of Law Lisa R. Pruitt is a scholar whose recent work explores the legal relevance of rural spatiality, including how it inflects dimensions of gender, race, and ethnicity.
